A Day of Discovery: KKES Students Explore Tarkwa Bay

26-5-2025

On Saturday, 24th May 2025, a select group of 32 enthusiastic learners from Kith & Kin Educational Schools (KKES) embarked on a memorable educational excursion to Tarkwa Bay Beach, Lagos. The cohort included 28 students from Kith & Kin Montessori School (KKMS), 2 from Kith & Kin British Academy (KKBA), and 2 from Kith & Kin International College (KKIC), all accompanied by dedicated staff who ensured a safe, well-coordinated, and impactful learning experience.

The journey began early in the morning with a smooth ride through the city, culminating at the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) jetty. From there, the students experienced a scenic boat cruise across the Lagos harbour, an exciting first for many and a valuable opportunity to learn about Nigeria’s waterways, water transport systems, and coastal geography.

Upon arrival at Tarkwa Bay, the students were given time to settle in, take in the serene environment, and prepare for a series of structured, engaging activities. A highlight of the day was the beach car ride, offering students a guided tour of the shoreline while learning about the natural ecosystem and the importance of coastal conservation.

Lunch was a delight, as students were treated to a sumptuous, well-prepared meal—a moment of bonding and shared excitement. This was followed by a photo session, allowing the children to document their learning adventure and create lasting memories with peers and staff.

Thereafter, students participated in supervised water-based activities, including a floating canoe experience and beachside swimming, all under strict safety measures. These activities were not merely recreational; they provided practical insights into buoyancy, water safety, and the physics of movement in water—bringing learning to life outside the classroom.

The Tarkwa Bay excursion was thoughtfully aligned with the students’ History curriculum, where “Tarkwa Bay” had been explored in class. This field experience deepened their understanding of local heritage, geography, transport, and environmental sustainability, reinforcing the importance of experiential learning in building well-rounded global citizens.

In all, the day was a perfect blend of education, adventure, and personal growth, showcasing the KKES commitment to holistic development and excellence in learning beyond the classroom.
